PHILADELPHIA, November 2, 2021— Hobbs & Towne, Inc. (“HTI”) Operating Partner and Advisory Board Chair Michael Naylor is an honored speaker at “The Economics of Climate Change” event in the COP26 Green Zone Tuesday, October 2 at 10:30am ET in Glasgow, Scotland. For a global audience concerned with the future of the planet, Mr. Naylor, Chairman of Jupiter Green Investment Trust, draws on his distinguished career in sustainability-focused investing to reflect on how the investival universe has expanded dramatically for those who care about protecting the environment.

“Thirty years ago there were only established players in renewable energy and sustainability. There was little mobility for managers, and investors didn’t take chances on small startups,” Mr. Naylor said, previewing his remarks, which will stream live on United Nations’ YouTube and other UN social platforms. “Now there is incredible momentum and opportunity at every level:  from innovators, to accelerators, to the established players. We’re seeing talent willing to start as eagerly with a nascent company as with an established player because of the rapid pace at which they’re all able to grow and succeed.”

Mr. Naylor joins five CEOs and founders of some of the fastest-growing start-ups tackling the climate challenge in the discussion hosted by Oxera, a premiere European economics and finance consultancy. Mr. Naylor is also featured with his co-panelists in a film surveying the innovative sustainability landscape and discussing economics as “a study of positive trade-offs that is key to bringing vital solutions and technologies to market.”

“HTI is proud to have Michael Nayor as our ambassador at the world’s most important gathering of climate-concerned citizens,” said Andy Towne, Co-Founder & CEO of Hobbs & Towne, Inc. “True change happens when the global economy recognizes the economic benefits of protecting our planet. HTI has been on the frontlines of this effort for over 20 years, connecting investors and talent with the most innovative companies making real impacts.”

Michael Naylor is a highly regarded board member and private investor in a portfolio of successful sustainability focused businesses, most notably K Road Solar LLC (exit to First Solar) and K Road DG LLC (sold to Engie), New Energy Finance Ltd (sold to Bloomberg) and Greentech Capital Advisors (sold to Nomura). He is a Non-Executive Director and Chairman of the Board of Jupiter Green Investment Trust plc, a company listed on the Main Market of the London Stock Exchange and recognized as one of the UK’s leading sustainability investing companies.

Oxera, Europe’s foremost economics and finance consultancy, will bring the Economics of Climate Change to life through the film lens as we hear from six guest CEOs and founders of some of the fastest-growing start-ups that are tackling the climate challenge. A short film will show you what investors, economists and GreenTech start-ups are doing, before we begin a lively interactive discussion of the Economics of Climate Change, moderated by Oxera Partners Jostein Kristensen and Sahar Shamsi.

Oxera has advised governments and businesses for nearly 40 years on improving the functioning of markets to achieve important policy objectives. This visually engaging and wide-ranging session will illustrate how economics can provide the toolkit for harnessing the multi-disciplinary skills that will ultimately make decarbonisation possible.

Our cinematic presentation will bring you into contact with deep insights, taking you from the use of worldwide geo-mapping of climate risk exposure to land and buildings, to the harnessing of the power of the oceans for achieving decarbonisation. We will discuss data driving carbon offset quality and ratings, supporting investors in the space now and in the future. We will look at the economics issues resulting from new innovative local low-carbon freight delivery systems, and at batteries that do not need recharging for decades. We will see how economics is a study of positive trade-offs that is key to bringing vital solutions and technologies to market.
