Allan brings deep energy relationships and expertise to global Smart Grid organization
The Board of Directors for the Smart Grid Interoperability Panel (SGIP), a member-funded organization focused on accelerating Smart Grid interoperability, today announced Sharon Allan, industry luminary, as its new President and Chief Executive Officer.
Allan’s 30 years of experience in the energy and information technology industries will help SGIP strengthen its collaborative ties between utilities, research labs, regulators and business leaders around the world. Allan will work closely with members to increase visibility for the work SGIP is doing to address the key grid modernization issues of resiliency and integration of new systems.
“Allan brings to SGIP deep industry relationships and leadership, two invaluable traits that made her an ideal candidate for our organization,” said John McDonald, SGIP Board Chairman and director, technical strategy and policy development at GE Digital Energy. “She will help SGIP evolve its mission in partnership with members to help them overcome grid modernization challenges.”
Allan is recognized as an industry leader. She’s been named one of Greentech Media’s “100 Movers & Shakers of the Smart Grid” and Smart Grid News’ “Smart Grid’s Three Most Powerful Women.” Her past executive leadership positions at Accenture, Elster, ABB, and IBM have shaped her expertise while impacting transformation within the industry.
Allan obtained a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from University of Florida and her M.B.A. from Duke University.
The Smart Grid Interoperability Panel (SGIP) is a public-private non-profit collaborative working to identify requirements for interoperability and technical standards. SGIP members work together to accelerate interoperability, testing and certification so that efficient, secure electrical power can reliably maintain and increase standards of living around the world. Members also have privileged access to the collected knowledge and expertise of all the domains in the Smart Grid ecosystem.
