and are determined to work with the brightest entrepreneurs and partner with the smartest investors and organizations globally to do so.  As a retained executive search and advisory services firm, we take our job seriously and are driven by the impact that we can make on an organization.  For over 19 years, we have partnered with companies at all stages, from university spinouts to large multinationals to help them grow, scale and disrupt their respective sectors.

As Babbage, Tesla, Ford and Jobs revolutionized their respective industries in their eras, we find passion in partnering with similar entrepreneurs, management teams and investors today who are looking to challenge the status quo and rewrite the history of the markets they seek to disrupt.  It is partnering with these individuals and institutions where we derive passion for what we do and that allows us to wake every morning with one goal: to source, evaluate and attract the world’s best talent to accomplish their respective goals and visions.

• Hobbs & Towne is a retained executive search and advisory services firm that has specialized in the clean energy, technology and sustainability markets for nearly 20 years.

• We work with investors, companies and candidates all over the world.

• We have a team of 9 Partners and 25 Associates across 5 offices: San Francisco, Philadelphia, New York, Houston, Toronto

• Our partners execute on searches and work with our clients until the search is completed – in other words, they don’t sign an engagement letter and then hand the search off to inexperienced people.

• We maintain the most extensive network of executive contacts from the industries that we serve, as well as peripheral industries, which enables us to generate candidates in the first week of a search.

• Every search has the same goal – to find THE candidate; we identify and recruit only the most talented executives in the market and make sure that they can culturally fit within the organization.

✔ We realize that there are constantly great people moving in and out of various industries and we also see younger individuals rise quickly in business. We run a data driven, analytical process that target candidates both inside and outside of our known network. Great search processes and diverse candidate pools can’t just be developed from one’s own database.

✔ Partners, who are equity owners of the business lead most search processes, including conducting research, sourcing new candidates, evaluating candidates and formally interviewing those candidates…every day.

HOW WE'RE FIXING IT…

✔ We would argue that assessing against culture and “fit” is often more important than any other level of assessment. Every situation is different and each company's culture is unique. We spend the necessary time upfront to understand the dynamic within the management team and Board of Directors, as well as better understand the personalities, strengths and weaknesses of those group to find the best executive for the role, not just the one that looks best on paper.

✔ We meet with the search committee in person and depending on the sensitivity of the search, also meet with the rest of the executive team to assess Company culture which enables us to conduct an accurate assessment of fit during candidate evaluation.

✔ As entrepreneurs ourselves we realize the value of cash and try to be as economical as possible during a search process. Whether this translates to our travel, candidate travel or video conferencing, we always focus on reducing expenses any way we can.

✔ We always keep a portion of our fee due upon conclusion of the search which aligns us with our clients to see a search through to the end.

✔ We don’t charge administrative fees.
